What Is Net Income?

What you actually keep. A plain-English trucking glossary entry for owner operators and small fleets.

Net Income: Net income is the profit left after subtracting all business expenses from gross revenue, before income tax.

Why it matters to owner operators

Net income is the number that pays your household bills and builds savings. Tracking it weekly helps you spot lanes, brokers or costs that eat into your margin.

Example

If you bill $12,000 and spend $9,500 on fuel, fees, maintenance and other costs, your net income for the week is $2,500 before tax.
