What Is Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse?

Database of driver test violations. A plain-English trucking glossary entry for owner operators and small fleets.

Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse: The FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is a database of drug and alcohol program violations by CDL drivers. Employers and owner operators must run queries and report as the rules require.

Why it matters to owner operators

Owner operators who hold a CDL and are their own employer must register and meet the program requirements, including designating a service agent. A violation can bar you from driving until the return-to-duty process is finished.

Example

A carrier runs a Clearinghouse query on a new driver before allowing them to drive.
