What Is BOC-3?

Process agent filing. A plain-English trucking glossary entry for owner operators and small fleets.

BOC-3: BOC-3 is a form that designates a legal process agent in each state where a carrier operates, so that legal papers can be served there. It is required to activate operating authority.

Why it matters to owner operators

Your authority cannot become active without it. Process agent companies usually file it on your behalf for a fee.

Example

A new carrier hires a process agent company to file a BOC-3 so its authority can be activated.
