Lease-On: Leasing on means an owner operator leases their truck to a motor carrier and hauls under that carrier’s operating authority instead of their own.
Why it matters to owner operators
It avoids the cost and work of getting your own authority, but the carrier controls loads, rates and settlements. Compare the pay split, deductions and contract exit terms before you commit.
Example
An owner operator without authority leases on to a carrier and receives a percentage of each load, with certain costs deducted on the weekly settlement.
