What Is Lumper Fee?

Charge for unloading help. A plain-English trucking glossary entry for owner operators and small fleets.

Lumper Fee: A lumper fee is a charge paid to a third-party crew that loads or unloads freight at a warehouse or distribution center, often because the facility requires it.

Why it matters to owner operators

Lumper fees are often paid by the driver up front, so know who reimburses you. Confirm the policy with the broker before you arrive and keep your receipt.

Example

A receiver requires a lumper to unload. The driver pays at the dock, sends the receipt to the broker, and the fee is added to the invoice.
