What Is Invoice?

Bill for a delivered load. A plain-English trucking glossary entry for owner operators and small fleets.

Invoice: An invoice is the bill a carrier sends to a broker or shipper after delivering a load. It lists the load details and the amount due and is usually sent with the rate confirmation, bill of lading and proof of delivery.

Why it matters to owner operators

Clean, complete invoices get paid faster. Missing documents or wrong amounts are among the most common reasons payment is delayed.

Example

A carrier delivers a load, then emails an invoice with the signed BOL and rate confirmation attached to the broker’s accounting address.
