What Is Proof of Delivery (POD)?

Signed delivery receipt. A plain-English trucking glossary entry for owner operators and small fleets.

Proof of Delivery (POD): Proof of delivery (POD) is a signed document or record showing the freight was delivered. It is typically the signed bill of lading and it is required for billing.

Why it matters to owner operators

No POD, no payment. Get it signed and legible, photograph it, and send it right away so invoicing is not delayed.

Example

After unloading, the driver takes a clear photo of the signed BOL and sends it to the dispatcher, who submits the invoice the same day.
