Layover Pay: Layover pay is a fee paid to a carrier when a delay forces the truck to wait a day or more, for example when a load is not ready or a delivery is rescheduled.
Why it matters to owner operators
A layover idles your truck and can disrupt your hours of service. Like detention, it needs to be agreed on the rate confirmation or approved by the broker before it is paid.
Example
A shipper cannot load until the next morning, so the truck waits overnight. The broker agrees to a layover fee, which is added to the invoice.
