What Is CSA Score?

Safety score from inspections. A plain-English trucking glossary entry for owner operators and small fleets.

CSA Score: Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) is the FMCSA program that scores carriers in safety categories called BASICs, based on roadside inspections, violations and crashes.

Why it matters to owner operators

Brokers, insurers and shippers may look at your CSA data. Clean inspections and prompt fixes help keep your scores low and your insurance more stable.

Example

A carrier with several brake violations sees its vehicle maintenance score rise and works to fix the underlying problem.
