What Is Roadside Inspection?

Inspection at the side of the road. A plain-English trucking glossary entry for owner operators and small fleets.

Roadside Inspection: A roadside inspection is an examination of a commercial truck and driver by enforcement personnel, checking items such as the driver’s license, logs, brakes, tires, lights and cargo securement.

Why it matters to owner operators

Violations are recorded against your carrier and driver. Keep documents organized and do a pre-trip each day so there are no surprises.

Example

An inspector stops a truck for a Level 1 inspection and checks the driver’s documents and the vehicle’s brakes, tires and lights.
